I popped along this week with my very excited nine-year-old son to check out this year’s Christmas panto installment at the Millennium Forum.
Continuing in a long line of popular magical shows, Aladdin is the fifteenth annual Christmas panto which has been held at the Forum.
Scanning around the theatre the excitement was evident. In every direction you looked kids were bouncing on their seats with probably a mixture of e-numbers and anticipation at what was about to begin.
The evil Abanazar played by Keith Lynch grabbed the attention of the audience from the outset when he arrived onstage with a huge bang of noise amidst a howl of boos and hisses.
With a fantastic cast of seasoned professionals consisting of panto king William Caulfield as Widow Twankey, Gerard McCabe as the loveable Wishee Washee and local actor Mickey Jay Heath as the main man Aladdin, they were joined by Catriona McFeely as Princess Jasmine.
The script was highly entertaining, especially to my son who is at that age now where he is starting to understand some jokes which would previously have gone over his head.
From the Market Place to Abananzar's Palace, the scenery was spectacular combined with the fantastic vocals of the panto stars making this years panto a fantastic show for all the family.
And of course no Christmas panto would be complete without a hilariously hectic rendition of the Twelve days of Christmas combined with various funny props.
Aladdin runs until Sunday 3rd of January and is one which kids and grown-ups alike will love from beginning to the end. With laughs galore, it is the must see show of the festive calendar.
