The Ulster Orchestra is back on the road, continuing to bring its ‘On Your Doorstep’ concert series to the North West into Spring 2019 when the historic Guildhall will host three special performances on Thursday 7th February, Thursday 4th April and Thursday 9th May.

‘On Your Doorstep’ is a very special opportunity to catch a full symphony orchestra in the intimate surroundings of the Guildhall. It’s hard to truly capture the power and effect of live orchestral music until you attend a show in person, and this programme strives to bring the Ulster Orchestra’s passion and magic to every corner of Northern Ireland.

With world class soloists, guest conductors and, of course, the full 63-piece orchestra, there’s no better time than to give the Orchestra a go – you may find that you know more classical music than you think.

Thursday 7th February offers a special programme, Inspired by Bach, conducted by outgoing Music Director Rafael Payare. With Bach’s spellbinding Ricercar, alongside pieces by Brahms and Schoenberg, the night will be full of lush and passionate melody.

Thursday 4th April, the Ulster Orchestra welcome the incredibly talented Swiss-Chinese pianist Louis Schwizgebe for a performance of Saint-Saëns’ exotically themed Egyptian. This concert also features Elgar’s rapturous First Symphony.

The final concert in the Guildhall series is on Thursday 9th May and sees the return of Northern Ireland’s own virtuoso pianist, Barry Douglas.  Barry will be performing Rachmaninov’s famed Second Piano Concerto, a masterpiece of melodic writing. The concert is opened by Derry-born composer Patrick Brennan’s Cycling.

Tickets cost £14 and are available from the Millennium Forum Box Office and online at www.millenniumforum.co.uk. All concerts in the Derry~Londonderry Guildhall are unreserved seating and start at 7.30 sharp.
