Following on from last year’s inaugural exhibition, “Border”, Void Gallery will once again be hosting an exhibition from a collective of women artists based in the North West of Ireland.
Ten artists have this year responded to the theme of “Carry”, which opens in the Void Gallery Process Room on Saturday 16 June at 6pm and will show until Saturday 23 June.
One of the artists, Kerri ni Dochartaigh, who proposed this year’s theme, explains “As a group we felt the word “Carry” was imbued with possibilities that we, as female artists, could respond to. Through this process we have brought our individual interpretations of “carry” to our creative community, responding in many mediums, with many reflections on all that we carry. We carry things from our past, into the present, in political spheres and spiritual ones; we carry personal responses and communal ones, physical objects and untouchable thoughts . All of this is reflected in our exhibition which we now, as a group and with the help of Void, carry forward to our audience.”
Maeve Butler, Head of Access and Engagement at Void Gallery, comments “It’s great to be able to welcome back this group of women artists. We anticipate, from our experience last year, that this exhibition will be intriguing, engaging and eclectic; and that the theme has prompted a wide and surprising range of responses from them, across a variety of mediums. We would encourage everybody to visit the Process Room from the 16 June to see and support this exhibition of work from our local women artists.”
The featured artists this year are Veronica Buchanan, Margaret Coyle, Kathryn Daily, Kerri Ní Dochartaigh, Catherine Ellis, Janet Hoy, Mary McLaughlin, Caroline Murphy, Rebecca Strain and Amanda Walker.
The exhibition opens on Saturday 16 June with live performances at 6pm and continues until Saturday 23 June, in the Process Room at Void Gallery, Patrick Street, Derry. Opening times are Tuesdays to Friday 11am-5pm and Saturday 12noon-6pm.
