Derry International Irish Music Festival

Taking place from 31 January -7 February.

Following on from the success of the All-Ireland Fleadh of 2013, the first International Irish Music Festival will take place from 31 January -7 February.

The week-long festival which is presented by Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin will celebrate the very best in Irish music, both traditional and contemporary with a jammed packed schedule of events which will take place in various venues across the city.

From live gigs to workshops and master classes, the International Irish Music Festival will include performances by over 250 musicians arriving from across Ireland, Scotland, and as far away as Los Angeles and Cape Breton Island in Canada.

The festival’s headline event, ‘Transatlantic Sessions’, which is based on the hit BBC/RTÉ TV series of the same name, will take place at the Millennium Forum and is an exclusive Irish date as part of their annual tour.

Transatlantic Sessions

What has become known as 'the greatest backporch shows ever' this year sees Dungiven’s very own Cara Dillon as its featured vocalist alongside Karen Matheson, frontwoman of Scotland’s most recognized folk outfit, Capercaillie.

Also joining the line-up is blues singer Rhiannon Giddens of Carolina Chocolate Drops and LA-based Grammy-nominees Milk Carton Kids.

Other highlights of the festival include the Trad Trail which will take place in various bars and venues throughout the city as some of the best musicians in the country will fill the air with Trad repeating the incredible atmosphere which we all experienced during the the All-Ireland Fleadh of 2013.
