Have you ever wanted to find out how your pint is actually made?
The guys behind the fantastic Sippy of Culture festival have created ‘Sipp Up in a Brewery’ to give punters the chance to visit working breweries and some of the great craft beer selling bars within the city and region.
The next tour takes place on May 6th, kicking off at the Grand Central Bar at 2pm, punters will get to visit the 3 breweries that the city has to offer: Dopey Dick, Northbound Brewery and Walled City Brewery, and also some of the great craft beer bars in the city- the Grand Central, and Blackbird. As well as sampling the beer, a light lunch and dinner will be provided, along with entertainment and live music.
Co-founder of Sippy of Culture, Connor Doherty, explained the thinking behind the tours: “At Sippy of Culture, we’re always keen to showcase local beers and what better way to do this than talk to those that are brewing them and visit the premises?”
Each of the tours will start with a light lunch and have dinner along the way, give insight to the brewing process and most importantly be a great way to meet with fellow beer enthusiasts and sample great drinks.
For anyone who’s enjoyed Sippy Fest, this is a great way to learn a bit more about the processes and the stories behind the brews. “We feel that the North West brewing scene is of a very high quality, with some great stories to be shared and we want to make sure that people from the area and further afield can experience the beers with the brewers, as well as seeing what the city’s food and drink offering is” said Connor.
Rachael Eastwood, owner of Dopey Dick Brewing Company, can't wait to welcome the tours. “As a new brand, it’s great to get to talk to a range of people about what we do. Dopey Dick reflects both the history and the future of the city it’s brewed in, and is a product we’re excited to talk about.”
Welcoming the Sippy of Culture initiative supported by Derry City and Strabane District Council’s Year of Food Industry Support Programme, the Mayor, Alderman Hilary McClintock said: “This unique tour showcases the incredible science behind brewing beer in some of the North West’s very own breweries. The opportunity to meet brew masters, learn some of the secrets of their craft, and sample their all-important products offers a new visitor experience which helps build the city’s reputation as a leading international food tourism destination.”
Sipp up in a Brewery is supported by Derry City and Strabane District Council as part of its Year of Food Industry Support Programme which encourages the private sector to develop events which support the Year of Food objectives aimed at building the north west’s reputation as an international food tourism destination.
