The newest edition to Derry’s bustling shopping scene will officially launch this week with an evening of live music and DJs, not to mention a prosecco reception to celebrate their arrival.
Emporium, situated at the bottom of Shipquay Street, will have an official launch party on Thursday 19th October from 6.30pm, and is open to all.
A shopping centre with a difference, the local complex will contain 20 local brands all under one roof and over three floors. From a coffee shop to a dog bakery, Emporium will be your one stop shop, while safe in the knowledge that you will be supporting local businesses.
Revealing her inspiration for the new venture, Creative Director Rebecca Harkin said: “I have always been amazed by the amount of talented people to come out of our small city and felt the town needed somewhere they could showcase their work in a cool environment in the heart of the city.
“When I lived in Dublin and London I would find myself spending my days off in George's Arcade Dublin, Brick Lane London, Camden, Strandhill People's Market Sligo, and thought a place like this would rock in Derry. Good coffee, local brands, live events all under the one roof. That's where the idea came from really.
“We have over 20 local brands here over three floors. Our Coffee shop which features organic coffee brand Grumpy Mule, will have celiac, vegan and vegetarian options every day. Our pop up shops include Shivon Soap, Native by Rebecca Harkin, Chic Fashion, Craft Hub, Make-up by Phoebe Kelly, Han*, ABBAZAPPA Records, Daisy Dots, Madness Vintage, Kaela Elliot, Paul Cavanagh Art, Candles by Lisa and Spoiled Rotten Dog Bakery.” said Rebecca.
The complex also aims to encouraging the ever growing creative culture within the city. “We have a space on our level one called EMPORIUM LIVE. There’s cosy sofas, a stage and a place we hope artists and creatives will enjoy holding their events. We will have classes, talks, meetings, music, workshops and all things wonderful taking place in our live lounge. It will be a space where creative people can come together and create new ideas” said Rebecca.
The Emporium will open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10am-6pm with the official launch party taking place on Thursday 19th October from 6.30-8.30pm.
