The Ulster Orchestra is back on the road with the final concert in their ‘On Your Doorstep’ series in the North West.
The historic Guildhall will host a very special performance on Thursday 9th May featuring Northern Irish virtuoso pianist Barry Douglas.
‘On Your Doorstep’ is a very special opportunity to catch a full symphony orchestra in the intimate surroundings of the Guildhall. It’s hard to truly capture the power and effect of live orchestral music until you attend a show in person, and this programme strives to bring the Ulster Orchestra’s passion and magic to every corner of Northern Ireland.
With world class soloists, guest conductors and, of course, the full 54-piece orchestra, there’s no better time than to give the Orchestra a go – you may find that you know more classical music than you think.
The concert on Thursday, 9th of May opens with Derry-born composer Patrick Brennan’s composition Cycling. Guest soloist and Northern Ireland’s own virtuoso pianist, Barry Douglas will be performing Rachmaninov’s famed Second Piano Concerto, a masterpiece of melodic writing best known from the Brief Encounter score and often described as one of the best piano concertos ever written. Stravinsky’s Petrushka bursts with all the harmonies and atmosphere you might expect from traditional Russian folk tales.
Tickets cost £14 and all concerts in the Guildhall are unreserved seating and start at 7.30 sharp.
