The Millennium Forum Youth Productions to perform West Side Story

Thursday 27th - Saturday 29th July.

The Millennium Forum Youth Productions is gearing up for another smash hit performance when West Side Story opens on Thursday 27th July for what promises to be the smash hit show of the summer.   

Fifty of the city’s young stars of the future are already in rehearsals at the Forum in preparation for the performance of a lifetime which will see the latest musical production showcase their talents until Saturday 29th July.

Seventeen year-old Robert Kelly and sixteen year-old Niamh Long head the hugely talented local in the lead roles of Tony and Maria in this brand new production of the hit musical. Robert is a student at St Columb’s College and a pupil of Margaret Key’s School of Singing. He has participated in numerous Millennium Forum Youth productions including last year’s Oliver, where he played the role of Bill Sykes and 2014’s Les Miserables.

Niamh studies at Thornhill College as well as being a member of numerous local theatrical groups in the city.  She has also performed in a number of previous local productions including Oliver, Annie, Hairspray and Seven Brides For Seven Brothers. Niamh recently made her West End debut in a singing competition called West End Calling. She performed in multiple theatres in the West End including The Lost Theatre, Tristan Bates Theatre and The Ambassadors Theatre.  

Inspired by William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet, West Side Story was written by Arthur Laurents. The original musical production was directed and choreographed by Jerome Robbins with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.

With the timeless songs, ‘America’ and ‘I Feel Pretty’, Robbins’ iconic musical is brought vividly to life by the Millennium Forum Youth Productions. Under the direction of Jonathan Burgess and musical direction of Alan Wright, with choreography by Nadine Hegarty, this lavish production will transport you to 1950s New York in this much loved family musical.
