This weekend will see the return of one of Northern Ireland’s most popular social events - the City of Derry Jazz and Big Band Festival.
Now in its 15th year, the ‘Jazz Festival’ will raise its curtain this Thursday for the grand opening of its 2016 event. Over 40,000 people are expected to descend on the city for the five day festival which attracts musicians from across the globe as music escapes from every pore of our legenderry city.
Organised by Derry City and Strabane District Council, the Jazz Festival will feature over 200 live music acts at over 70 venues, bands such as: Red Stripe Band, The Jive Aces, Ricky Cool & the In Crowd, Greggi G & His Crazy Gang, Cat Scratch Fever featuring Western Valley Hot Club, Bluez Katz, Harry Connolly Band, Jaydee Brass Band, Jiveoholics, Wild, Velocity Brown & The Hot Rods, Kings of Rhythm, Les Swinging Lovers, Oo-Bop-Sh’Bam and many more.
Each and every bar, café and restaurant within the city over the years have embraced the festival and this year is no different.
Roy Ayers - Everybody Loves The Sunshine // Brownswood Basement Session
Topping the bill at this year’s event will be living legend Roy Ayers, the Godfather of Neo-soul who you can catch at St.Columbs Hall on Sunday 1st May. Vibraphonist/vocalist Roy Ayers is among the best-known, most-loved and respected Jazz and R&B artists on the music-scene today.
